Fabric Building Information for Architects

Legacy Building Solutions offers design-build fabric structures. Our buildings can be stand-alone facilities or used as part of a building system.

We specialize in large-scale projects, custom buildings and innovative designs. Our engineers and designers can create clear span options over 300 feet wide, or add interior columns to serve as the basis for interior structures and possibly reduce cost. We also design fabric buildings with high interior clearance, off-center hanging loads, mono-pitch roofs and other special requests.

Our fabric structures are built on a rigid steel frame – the same supporting structure used in traditional construction. In addition to complete design flexibility, the steel frames give Legacy buildings a more traditional look that better blends in with surrounding structures. Adding traditional construction materials, such as steel, concrete, wood or stone, further enhances the building’s ability to blend in – or stand out if needed. Because fabric is available in a variety of colors and can be directly printed on, brand messages such as logos or mascots are easily added to the actual building design.

Architectural Elements for Fabric Structures

Each design-build structure is customized to accommodate the building’s use. Traditional construction materials and architectural elements are available, including:

  • Overhangs
  • Collateral loads
  • Climate control systems
  • Lighting and sound equipment
  • Window and door fenestrations
  • Lean-tos
  • Jack beams
  • Offset peaks
  • Monoslope roofs

Benefits of Fabric Structures

Fabric structures excel at letting natural sunlight into every inch of the building. Depending on the type of fabric, the building will have up to 12% translucency. On a sunny day, enough diffuse natural light will penetrate the walls and ceilings to allow work inside the building with no electric lights needed. On overcast days and at night, artificial light will be magnified by the reflective fabric interior.

Architectural fabric minimizes reverberation inside the building for the highest-quality acoustic attenuation. A fabric structure with insulation and a lining has the clearspan interior, bright lights and acoustics needed for athletics centers, entertainment venues and offices.

There are many systems of climate control on the interior of a fabric structure. Add insulation and an interior liner to control the interior environment. Fans, ridge vents, mesh side walls and various end wall configurations keep a constant fresh air supply in the building. Or add air conditioning and heating systems to keep the inside of the fabric building comfortable year round.

Our installation crews also pay attention to the details. A wrinkle-free cover contributes to the longevity of the building and a neat finished appearance. Special care is taken at corners and penetrations to create a building you’ll be proud of for years to come. We use a patented system to attach fabric to the frame with holes and nowhere for leaks to start.
