The Rundown

These salt storage buildings were designed to prevent corrosion to the building and stored equipment – including hot dip galvanized steel members, purlin caps and solid steel bracing rods. Both buildings are identical in size, but were designed as separate projects with distinct budgets and timelines.

Feature Details

  • Building size: 141’wide x 360’ long
  • Steel frame and secondary members are hot dip galvanized
  • Solid steel rods used for secondary bracing
  • Capped purlins to prevent dust entry
  • 15 oz. polyethylene fabric cladding
  • Fabric is directly bolted to frames; no ratchets/straps remain after installation
  • 7/12 roof pitch
  • Standard 18” overhangs with ventilated mesh soffit on each side
  • 2 aluminum ARV2000 roof vents framed and installed in peak of each bay
  • 48” x 48” fix-bladed aluminum louvers with mesh pest screen framed in end walls
  • Pier with extended anchor foundation supplied by owner
  • 12’ Hanson precast concrete retaining walls
  • Delivered six weeks from drawing approval
  • 40 psf ground snow load, 29 psf roof snow load, 105 mph wind load
  • Building use: Salt storage and distribution at a railroad transload facility
